Starting my day with tarot is more exciting than nerve wrecking. I keep my deck in a hand designed wooden box on a table near the entrance of my apartment. The placement is intentional because I am forgetful. As I make my way to the door I send a question to the universe. Then, I shuffle the deck paying attention to the cards that jump out at me. Once I have a card in my hand, I take a deep breath in and turn it over to reveal its message.
The beauty of tarot lies in our interpretation of the card or spread that is presented to us. Even if you seek out a spiritualist, they can only do so much if you have no connection to their advice. Tarot is a personal act that requires you to connect with the deck in order to truly understand what you need.
Tarot Provides the Answers You Need
A spiritual advisor once told me that I had pursued the wrong career and that my spirit wanted to work in a different industry. At the time I had become successful in tech consulting. Although I was flourishing, my battle with depression and anxiety had become increasingly exhausting. I had dropped 20 pounds and lost enthusiasm for the most routine tasks. I needed answers outside of my spiritual abilities, so I sought a spiritual advisor.

The advisor was welcoming and able to identify my spiritual strengths and weakness. However, her recommendations helped and negatively impacted my outlook on life. She told me to pursue a medical sales career to find satisfaction in a profession. I walked away shocked, but opened to change. That very night I started pursuing medical sales positions relentlessly. I stayed optimistic with every rejection because I knew an offer would materialize.
Unfortunately, this did not happen. I was unqualified for most of the positions, lacked a medical skill and specialty, and had absolutely no idea how to enter the field correctly. Failing to accomplish the spiritual to-do list force me to re-evaluate the reading from my perspective. I had focused so much on the obtaining that one task that I disregarded the advice for other situations in my life.
A Tarot Card Will Not Reveal Everything
Tarot persuades us to take specific actions. However, the accuracy of the reading is dependent on the symbols in which we find connection. After meeting with the advisor, I became increasingly interested in tarot even more. Her perspective of my life conflicted with my interpretations during the session. I knew my birth chart fairly well, and symbolism was a normal discussion in my family. Never backing down from I challenge, I did attempt her advice. The outcome never materialized the way that I expected. Fortunately, the results made me look at the practice from a different, more personal, perspective.
Most of the recommendations I received from the spiritual advisor was promising, but some was far-fetched. Making a switch from marketing to a medical career after two degrees was quite extreme. However, she did advise me to grow closer to my inner self which would allow me to understand my spiritual purpose. I had already had more own deck at this point, so it was easy to change my focus to using the cards to better myself on a daily basis.
Right-Side Up vs Upside-Down
I soon learned how about the different meanings within a single card. The position of the card offers two different insights depending on whether it is upright or reversed. Also, every aspect or feature on the card may not align to your current situation. I recently pulled the ten of pentacles in reverse, and instantly felt like my world was about to take a major tumble. When I saw the card, I instantly questioned if it was what I needed to receive. The ten of pentacles is an amazing card. It commends you on your hard work and successes in the upright position. So, naturally when I saw the reverse I immediately assumed the opposite. Fortunately, the card in reverse told me that although I had not created a life of financial stability and fortune yet, that it was on the way. I still had work to do, but I was working towards accomplishing each of my goals.

There are two ways to approach the situation – one in which you are guaranteed downfall, and the other is identifying ways to avoid the downfall to change the narrative. Of course, I decided to change the narrative to achieve the results I truly want in my life. I made the effort to connect with my family and peers, and decided to change how I dealt with my finances – which has always been a major struggle of mine.
Taking this into consideration I decided to pursue tarot from a more personal outlook. Although appreciative of the spiritual advisors advice, my own perspectives provide solutions that I could easily achieve.
